Kaffe og Blod
Oct 2011 18

Kim Carlsson from Lifelover and Hypothermia has quite a mentally different persona from almost everyone in this world. He was the original member of the former, and often stood out from the other members. He was known to mutilate himself on stage, and take copious amounts of drugs before the shows. He also is an amateur painter, whether or not he continues to is not known. But all pieces are made with coffee, ink/water and his own blood. Finished on heavygrain cardboard stock, the blood, as it dries and the cells die it creates a texture and gets darker on the canvas.

Only 6 exist to my knowledge but you can see below if you are not turned off. Check out the morbid paintings here READ MORE…

Stalaggh Projekt Terrror: Existence Is Futile
Oct 2011 17

Stalaggh was a Dutch noise entity, set out to redefine the experience of the listener through audial provokation and expermentation with sound. No official members identites have been revealed but one interview exists, and they have been known to use the screams of mental patients for their recordings, as well as artwork hand painted by one them on metal cases. Stalaggh released three “Projekts” including a final piece entitled Projekt Terrrror which was a short visual. It consists of extremely harsh noise, and footage of real corpses, a hanged man, war, explosions, all in grainy black and white stock.

Fading Into Nothingness DSBM
Oct 2011 17

I’ve here collected a black armament of recordings made for the darkest portions of your life, when everything is gray, bleak, hopeless, suffering, and suicide is your only comfort. The suicidal/depressive black metal tag has created many imitators, and cheap copies void of any emotion but with this there is a contrast. Some of this can sound completely lifeless but also very beautiful… It’s like you become part of the whole atmosphere being created and the enveloping darkness grows thicker as time stretches. The minds behind these dreadful “songs” are tortured indeed, who have probably had a miserable experience here on earth, or are giving outlet to their anxious depression and unwill of living. Shut out your lights while submitting to isolation and try not to have sharp razors or other weapons lying around. Then listen through in some headphones and drown in it, this will probably ruin your day.

Autumn Wind Photography
Oct 2011 13

To root off this inquisitive interview, i shall ask where your inspirations come from, it seems by the aesthetics of your shots you at least hold a close reverence for nature and the dark side of life, is this true?

Nature, nudity, shadows, fog, rain, antiquity and anything else I find dark imagery in…crumbling buildings and minds, all are beautiful to me.

-If you listen to metal, what styles are you into? What does it take for this extreme form of music to get under your skin and provoke you to create?

Metal is my first love, Black Metal, Death Metal, most any kind of metal as long as it provokes emotion in me. I also listen to Neo-folk, Folk, Punk, Dark Ambient, Classical and lately a lot of Power Electronics and Noise. I love music very much and I’ve run a record label for awhile…but when photographing I usually do not have any music playing…I need to concentrate on whats going on in my head at the time.

Din Of Celestial Birds
Oct 2011 11

About 6 years ago, as i was exploring the depths of obscure film, i found the truly weird ‘Begotten’. And it left a permanent scar on me. It was true horror in the way that i had never devoted my visual and hearing sense to such an experience, the first time i did not even sit through it. Then sometime earlier this year i found out there was actually a second short film entitled “The Din Of Celestial Birds”, which is aimed to convey the birth of the consciousness and evolution. Scenes of what seems to be revolving dust clouds, growing flora, nematodes, and a decaying corpse. But one can decide what they see in it themselves, which is part of the non-typical filming technique.  Though not as harsh as the former, it is more experimental and atmospheric. Completely black and white and filmed only how Elias Merhige is capable of. It is a perfect film to let wash over you in extremely states of tiredness or subjectivity. With a quiet droning noise soundtrack that ebbs and flows in the background, it is also suitable to dub any dark ambient or funeral doom over for a more unique watching pleasure.

The slow kill in the cold
Oct 2011 06

I discovered this black gem from a compilation that represented a third wave of Norwegian black metal. This division has 3 obscure members, and nothing is really known about them save for one or 2 interviews, one done by myself. They tread a unique path, as each individual does not mold into a specific role. Each occupying a different element on the 3 releases that have surfaced. ‘Sower of Death’ did not take long to become one of my favorite of the black metal ilk. The overall aesthetic of it, with the field recordings infused into old style black metal. Even some keyboards are properly mixed inside. The vox are of a majestic quality that never overpower, you could picture what they sound like even buy setting your eyes on the album cover, and contain quite a bit of variance. The thin and piercing production is complimented by the occasional thunder roll and falling rain, with a buzzing pitch which completely sets the atmosphere. Read the rest inside… READ MORE…

Ved Graven: Lo-fi Norwegian death rituals
Oct 2011 03

Since my cassette player on my stereo broke, I was rather upset. But in another sense did not feel a complete loss, as i only possessed cheap homemade tapes anyways. But after receiving a letter for Die Hard zine from Infamroth with a copy of Ved Graven inside, i immediately went on the hunt for a new one. Where might i find something so obsolete and rare? I scoured the local thrift stores and came up with a gem of a handheld cassette player, painted it black, and invoked the ritual Ved Graven under favorable conditions.

Taake, The Weapons of Norway: Noregs Vaapen review
Oct 2011 02

After reading the statement alone by Hoest that Noregs Vaapen would be “already more than you deserve” I tried to listen to this one expecting nothing, and let Taake take new form. Starting down a different filthy path after the trilogy of releases, this one digs deep into the Norwegian earth and finds Nocturno Culto, Demonaz, Thurzur, Skagg & Attila Csihar there as extra guests. I’m always filled with raw, hateful energy when I put on a Taake album, for some it’s a rite, others only background music. But if you feel like breaking everything in your house, and then going to the streets for more carnage, I believe Hoest has been able to infect you with his true black metal craft. I went through several of these violent ecstasies before writing. READ MORE…
