I can’t front so I won’t front – one of my favorite hip hop groups of all times is a A Tribe Called Quest. Their first three albums are straight classics and will for sure stand the test of time. These three young New Yorkers changed the fabric of the way hip hop was created, and also opened up the minds of many people worldwide. When I first heard People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, I knew that this group existed in their own mindstate of rawness! My crew and I also knew that a new A Tribe Called Quest video would be a groovy experience to peep. When I heard that a documentary was being made about them, I could not wait to watch it. Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest was directed by Michael Rapaport, and is a well-made documentary from my point of view. I’m sure when history looks back on A Tribe Called Quest they will be included with jazz greats, because that’s the kind of impact they had on pop culture! Today CVLT Nation celebrates this group by showing Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest in full after the jump…let’s push it along!
